Caerleon: Many Branches, One Root. And that root is Chivalry

List Administrator: GregRobin Smith

Cost of Subscription: Do good in the world :-)

(in no particular order)

1) Is that first name spelled right?
Yes, 'GregRobin' is my first name. The spelling, spacing and
capitals are correct. InterCaps is (I believe) the descriptive term.
Friends call me GregRobin, "G.R." or Sir Brand

2) What is the purpose of the list?
To provide a living electronic resource to educators world wide.
To provide advice, opinions and insight into the times of Medieval
History, its motivations, influences and results of life then.
Also, to recommend ways of making education more hands on and
interactive.

3) How do I subscribe?
Send an email to: listproc@u.washington.edu
and say: subscribe caerleon {put real name here}
Or write to sirbrand@u.washington.edu and state your interest and
any skills you feel you have to lend.

4) What are GregRobin's\ 'credentials' as an Educator and Commentator?
I have been directing "A Knight's Tour", a hands-on, interactive
non-profit educational demonstration company for over 10 years.
We teach over 10,000 students each year in a hands-on and
interactive manner. We consult on Medieval programs, faires,
banquets, weddings, celebrations and research. I have lectured at
Cornish College, City University, the University of Washington
and Shoreline Community College.
My book on educational demonstrations is available on line at
http://weber.u.washington.edu/~sirbrand/
When there, search for "education".

5) What else does Caerleon hope to do?
Establish year-round centers of recreated Medieval life, based
mostly on the Village of Shrewsbury in Shropshire, England.
These centers would be available for long term and short term
residences and visitations to explore and experience the role the
Medieval world had in creating our world today. The centers would
also serve as a home base for our educational outreach programs
that take our brand of interactive education to schools and other
organizations requesting assistance.

6) What else does "the administrator" do?
I teach classes in Medieval History to schools around the Puget Sound.
I am a guest lecturer in the Theatre department of Cornish College
of the Arts in Seattle.
I advise historical groups, Schools, Communities and private
groups (Churches, Home Schools) on fundraising and educational
demonstrations.
My wife, Cymbric (pronounced "Kim'brik") and I sing and play
traditional and original Celtic influenced music in a duet.
I administrate an on line poetry list, called
chivalry_is_yet-a-guide, which posts my poetry twice a week.
I am "Bard" for Renaissance Magazine
(writing on "The Place of the Modern Bard")
I am a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism.

7) Can I get previous postings?
We are setting up an archive system so you can retrieve automatically.
However, for right now, email me and I will send you a list of the
articles you can request. You may also browse my web page which has
~ 250 of my poems, and other articles and books on education I have
written, pictures, etc. http://weber.u.washington.edu/~sirbrand/

8) What are the types of participation to Caerleon?
There are two. An "A+" ('A Positive Subscriber') gets all the
posts, but is not expected to send back anything except good
wishes. This is the default position. "A+"-ers may post, if they
feel they have something to say, at the discretion of the List
Administrator.
A "B+" ('Be Positive Subscriber') is an active researcher, and is
expected to respond, and actually dig up info. Either folk may
also be interested in helping design and advise on our centers.
A "B+"-er wannabe should send a bit of a resume' to the List
Administrator stating their interests and any credentials they
have in history, education or just what talents they have to
offer. ("Enthusiasm" counts for a lot:-)

9) Why is this list run out of the University of Washington?
I work there, and as such, have an account. This does not imply
that the UW in anyway endorses this project. Also, I am not using
this list as a way of getting money. I receive no salary from
"Caerleon", "A Knight's Tour" or any medieval group mentioned.

If you have any further questions, please contact me at
sirbrand@u.washington.edu

In peace, and in service to education, I remain, GregRobin Smith
List Administrator, Caerleon.
