I hope this email finds you well. I am an Assistant Professor of Cultural Anthropology in the Anthropology and Middle Eastern Cultures department of Mississippi State University. This summer my colleagues and I at the are launching the "Brush Arbor Community-Engaged Field Program." The program is funded by the NEH (National Endowment of the Humanities) and in partnership with the Margaret Walker Center at Jackson State University. We will be training students in how to use decolonial methods to preserve a historic Black Cemetery in Starkville, MS near the campus of Mississippi State. The program includes training methods like GIS, Oral Histories, GPR, Story Mapping, Curation, and black digital archives from a variety of interdisciplinary scholars and practitioners. The field school will be from July 2-August 4, 2023.



We are accepting 10 students this year and will be providing room and board as well as a stipend. Eligibility is open to upperclassman (rising junior or higher) and early career graduate students (MA or pre-quals PhD). We are particularly interested in recruiting BIPOC and first gen students from humanities and social science disciplines. Applications are open now and will close March 19, with decisions out by April 15.
